Mr. Ryan Hurd - Director of Bands
Ryan Hurd is in his seventh year as Director of Bands for the Jackson Schools after previously serving four years as Associate Director of Bands for district. Originally from Parma, Ohio, he received his Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music Education in Teaching Artistry in Music Education from Bowling Green State University. He is responsible for coordinating all band activities and conducts the Wind Ensemble, Marching Ironmen, Jazz Band, Pep Bands, assists with the middle school bands, and teaches AP Music Theory.
Ryan lead the Symphonic Band (formerly Concert Band), to their first ever "Superior" rating at the OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Event and was recognized by the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA) with the 2017 "Outstanding Potential Award". Most recently, Ryan was named the 2018 OMEA Outstanding Young Music Educator of the Year. Ryan is a member of the American School Band Directors Association. Additionally, he has served as the OMEA District 17, District President, middle school honor band site chair, and as a site chair for high school and middle school solo and ensemble events.
Ryan is passionate about the mentoring of young music educators and giving back to the profession of music education in his local and greater community. He has served as a guest saxophone/clarinet clinician for several schools throughout Ohio, as well as served as a judge for various district and festival honor bands. He has hosted six professional interns from Ohio University. In addition, Ryan has given leadership seminars in various schools in southeast Ohio. In 2018, he was a co-clinician for the OMEA professional development conference on Building Band Programs in Rural & Low Income Areas. In 2022, Ryan served as a Co-Clinician for the ASBDA State Convention using the same presentation.
A winner of the Three Arts Club of Lakewood competition, Ryan has performed recitals throughout the Cleveland area. As a member of The Four Corners Saxophone Quartet, Ryan won prizes from Bowling Green State University’s Annual Chamber Music Competition and MTNA Ohio Chamber Competition. With this group, Ryan participated also in master classes by both Dr. Clifford Leaman and Dr. Ryan Muncy. The Four Corners Saxophone Quartet devoted much of its time to the expansion of the saxophone quartet repertoire, having premiered pieces by composers Mihai Popean, Hannah Skowronek, John Gazda, Peng Xing, as well as working on a new piece with Mark Whitmer. While at Bowling Green State University, Ryan was a member of the Falcon Marching Band, Wind Symphony, and Jazz Ensemble. On the weekends, you can catch Mr. Hurd with his local jazz quartet, JRDN & CO.

Mr. Keith Wilson - Associate Band Director
Keith Wilson is in his ninth year as Associate Band Director for the Jackson Bands and Elementary Music Teacher for the Jackson City Schools. Originally from Canton, Ohio, he received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Mount Union and Master of Music Performance from the University of Akron. He is responsible for all JMS Bands, coordinating all elementary music activities including the Eistedfodd, and assists with the Marching Ironmen, Wind Ensemble, and conducts the Symphonic Band.
Prior to joining the Jackson staff, Keith was a graduate assistant at the University of Akron where he served as the drumline instructor for the University of Akron Marching Band.

Mrs. Mallory Scaife - Assistant Band Director
Mallory Scaife Wilson is a Wooster, Ohio native, and graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a minor in Conducting. Her responsibilities as Assistant Band Director include assisting the Middle School Bands and Marching Ironmen, conducting the JHS Concert Winds, and teaching 3rd and 4th grade General Music.
Before joining the Jackson Bands staff, Mrs. Scaife served as the Director of Bands at Wheelersburg Local Schools for three years. She was responsible for all band activities including directing the Wheelersburg Middle and High School Concert Bands, Marching Band, and Pep Band, while teaching 8th Grade General Music and high school Class Piano. During her time at Wheelersburg, she tripled the band program’s overall enrollment, and led the WHS Concert Band to a Superior rating at OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Event in 2022.
Mrs. Scaife is a pianist and clarinetist, who performed with the Ohio University Marching 110 and Wind Symphony in the Macy’s Day Parade and at Carnegie Hall. On piano, she earned first place in the Graves Adult Duo Piano Competition, honorable mention in the Ohio University Concerto Competition, and has worked as a piano accompanist in Southeastern Ohio for the past eight years.
