JHS Bands
Marching Ironmen
The Marching Ironmen is the most visible and recognizable group in the Jackson band program, and serves as an ambassador for Jackson High School and the Jackson City Schools. Membership is required of all students enrolled in high school band. The Marching Ironmen perform at all Jackson High School football games, pep rallies, marching festivals, local parades, and all other scheduled events. The Marching Ironmen are the largest band in all of Southeast Ohio.
Wind Ensemble
Members of the Wind Ensemble represent the most advanced performers in the Jackson Band Program. The Wind Ensemble performs at a more advanced level, and represents Jackson High School in a variety of performances throughout the school year. The Wind Ensemble also attends the OMEA District 17 & State Large Group Adjudicated Events. The Wind Ensemble has earned "Superior" ratings at OMEA District Large Group Contests every year since Mr. Rex assumed leadership of the ensemble in the fall of 2012. Most recently, the Wind Ensemble received unanimous "Superior" ratings in Class A for the first time in school history at the 2016 OMEA D17 Large Group Adjudicated Event and again in 2017. The Wind Ensemble also performed performed at the 2017 OMEA Professional Development Conference in Cleveland.
Concert Winds
The Concert Winds present a balanced program of technical development and musical performance, and represents Jackson High School in a variety of performances throughout the school year. The ensemble is open to all students in grade 9-12. It is expected that all members will work towards improvement and advancement into Wind Ensemble. The Concert Winds also attends the OMEA District 17 Large Group Adjudicated Event.
Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band is made up of predominately underclassmen. This ensemble focuses on refining basic playing fundamentals and technique while developing musical expression. The Symphonic Band is designed as a very low commitment ensemble for students that are unable to commit to additional after school rehearsal times. Occasionally, the Symphonic Band may attend the OMEA D17 Large Group Adjudicated Event.
Jazz Band I
Jazz Band I rehearses during the school day, and utilizes standard big band instrumentation. This ensemble is made up of mostly of students with jazz band experience or more advanced beginners. Jazz Band I represents Jackson High School in a variety of performances throughout the school year including the Jackson Apple Festival and area jazz festivals. Students that play non-traditional band instruments, such as guitar, bass and piano, and vocalists are not required to have prior experience in the Jackson Band Program.
Jazz Band II
Jazz Band II rehearses during the school day, and incorporates non-traditional jazz bands instruments such as flute, clarinet, and baritone, as well as students on secondary instruments. This ensemble is made up mostly of students with no prior jazz band experience. Jazz Band II performs at the Holiday Bands Concert and Spring Fling. Students that play non-traditional band instruments, such as guitar, bass and piano, and vocalists are not required to have prior experience in the Jackson Band Program.
Pep Band
Pep Band is required of all students in the high school band program. The Pep Band performs at select home basketball games and other select performances throughout the season. Rehearsals occur immediately preceding designated home basketball games. Students are required to perform at 3-4 basketball games per season.
